Yucateco Boxing will host a major amateur boxing tournament, with the support of the African Boxing Union and the World Boxing Council, to be held in Lagos, Nigeria, from February 6-8.
Yucateco Boxing Promotions, one of the leading boxing organizations in Africa, will host this historic event at the Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The event will feature the participation of boxers from Kenya, Uganda, Togo, Senegal, Ghana, Mali, Cameroon and Nigeria.
Yucateco Boxing Promotions CEO Omonlei Yakubu Imadu commented that the first amateur boxing tournament endorsed by the ABU and the WBC in Africa has marked a new dawn for the development of amateur boxing on the continent.
“I am happy that my promotion has finally made this happen; Bringing the first WBC amateur tournament to Africa is no child’s play, and most importantly I am very happy that this is happening in my beloved country, Nigeria.
“We are bringing the world to Lagos, and this really delights me. The President of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman, as well as the President of the African Boxing Union (ABU), Houcine Houichi, will be in Nigeria supporting the event.”
